This medium to full-strength cigar offers notes of sweetness, spice, and earth underscored by a rich creaminess. The cigar’s light-tan Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper covers a USA Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and filler leaves from Esteli and Jalapa, which are two of Nicaragua’s top-tobacco producing regions. The Aksum line is the first time Foundation Cigars has developed a blend using Ecuadorian Sumatra tobacco. The cigars are handmade at AJ Fernandez’s factory in Nicaragua.

Cigar Aficionado’s 2024 “Cigar of the Year” No. 12 – 93-Rating
Foundation has already amassed numerous accolades in its short time in the cigar industry. And the mastermind behind it? Nicholas Melillo. He may be relatively young, but he’s already amassed 20+ years in the cigar industry. Starting at just 18, Melillo has risen from working in a cigar shop to helping blend cigars at Drew Estate, to starting Foundation.
Produced by AJ Fernandez, Aksum is the rebranded version of Foundation’s Metapa. The blend consists of Nicaraguan tobaccos encased inside a Connecticut broadleaf binder and finished inside an Ecuadorian Sumatra claro wrapper. Expect a bold, rich experience ripe with notes of leather, earth, and spice on the finish.
